Services

Seven engineering services, one delivery standard.

Each service below sets out its purpose, typical scope, deliverables and working process. Services are combined according to the engagement: some projects need the full path from design to operation, others a single well-defined piece of work.

  1. 01Custom software development
  2. 02Web application development
  3. 03UI/UX and digital product design
  4. 04Cloud infrastructure and deployment
  5. 05API development and systems integration
  6. 06Software testing and quality assurance
  7. 07Maintenance and technical support
01Service

Custom software development

Build applications for processes that packaged products model poorly — domain-specific rules, multi-role workflows, and data that must stay consistent across departments.

Typical scope

  • Domain and data modelling with enforced database constraints
  • Business rule implementation and role-based permissions
  • Administrative tooling, reporting and audit trails
  • Data migration from spreadsheets or legacy systems

Deliverables

  • Source code and reviewed database migrations
  • Automated test suite running in continuous integration
  • Environment configuration and deployment definitions
  • Technical documentation and release notes

Working process

  • Discovery: written scope, acceptance criteria and explicit non-goals
  • Architecture: data model, boundaries and interface contracts recorded
  • Increments: reviewable slices demonstrated in a running environment
  • Handover: documentation, runbooks and a shared transition period
02Service

Web application development

Deliver browser-based products and internal tools that remain fast, accessible and maintainable as the dataset and the team grow.

Typical scope

  • Rendering strategy per route: server-rendered, static or client-rendered
  • Authentication, authorisation and session handling
  • Data fetching, caching rules and pagination for real dataset sizes
  • Responsive layouts for desktop, tablet and mobile

Deliverables

  • Component library implemented in code
  • Route-level metadata, sitemap and crawlability configuration
  • Performance and accessibility check results
  • End-to-end tests covering critical user paths

Working process

  • Route and state map agreed before implementation
  • Interface built against real data shapes, not placeholders
  • Performance budget monitored during development
  • Release behind staged deployment with monitoring in place

UI/UX and digital product design

Reduce the effort required to complete a task: fewer decisions, clearer states, and interfaces that make incorrect input difficult.

Typical scope

  • Task analysis and user flow definition
  • Information architecture and navigation structure
  • Wireframes, interface specifications and interaction states
  • Design system: type scale, spacing, colour tokens, components

Deliverables

  • Flow diagrams and annotated interface specifications
  • Clickable prototype for validation
  • Design tokens and component documentation
  • Accessibility notes covering contrast, focus and keyboard use

Working process

  • Define the tasks and the constraints before drawing screens
  • Prototype the risky paths first and walk through them with users
  • Specify states: empty, loading, partial, error and permission-limited
  • Implement the system in code so design and build stay aligned
04Service

Cloud infrastructure and deployment

Make environments reproducible and releases routine, so deploying is a normal operation rather than an event that requires supervision.

Typical scope

  • Infrastructure defined as code with reviewable changes
  • Separate development, staging and production environments
  • Container-based deployment and managed cloud services
  • Backup, restore and disaster-recovery procedures

Deliverables

  • Infrastructure definitions in version control
  • CI/CD pipeline with build, test, migrate and deploy stages
  • Monitoring dashboards, log aggregation and alert rules
  • Runbooks for deployment, rollback and incident response

Working process

  • Audit the current environment, access model and release path
  • Codify infrastructure and establish environment parity
  • Automate the pipeline with a prepared rollback path
  • Validate restores and alert thresholds before handover
05Service

API development and systems integration

Connect systems so they agree on the same facts, and remove recurring manual data transfer between tools.

Typical scope

  • API design: resources, versioning, error semantics and rate limits
  • Webhooks, message queues, scheduled jobs and file-based exchange
  • Field-level mapping and authoritative-source decisions
  • Automation of imports, exports, provisioning and notifications

Deliverables

  • Versioned API schema and reference documentation
  • Integration services with idempotent writes and retry handling
  • Reconciliation reports that surface discrepancies
  • Monitoring for queue depth, failure rates and dead-letter volume

Working process

  • Map each system's authoritative data and required guarantees
  • Agree the contract in writing, including failure behaviour
  • Build against a sandbox and verify with replayed payloads
  • Run in parallel with reconciliation before switching over
06Service

Software testing and quality assurance

Make regressions visible before release and keep the cost of change low as the system grows.

Typical scope

  • Test strategy driven by risk rather than uniform coverage targets
  • Unit, integration and end-to-end automation
  • Cross-browser, device and accessibility verification
  • Load and performance testing where usage patterns require it

Deliverables

  • Automated test suites integrated into the pipeline
  • Test plan documenting the paths that must never break
  • Defect reports with reproduction steps and severity
  • Regression tests retained for every fixed defect

Working process

  • Identify critical paths and failure impact with the client
  • Automate those paths first, then broaden coverage
  • Block release on a failing pipeline
  • Reproduce each defect with a failing test before fixing it
07Service

Maintenance and technical support

Keep a running system healthy as dependencies age, platforms change and usage grows beyond the original assumptions.

Typical scope

  • Dependency and security updates on a defined cadence
  • Monitoring and alert review, capacity and cost observation
  • Incident handling with root-cause analysis
  • Planned feature work and technical debt reduction

Deliverables

  • Maintenance log covering updates, incidents and their resolution
  • Periodic health review of performance, errors and infrastructure
  • Updated documentation and runbooks after each change
  • Prioritised backlog for the next increment

Working process

  • Agree the support arrangement in writing, matched to system risk
  • Establish a single intake channel for issues
  • Triage by user impact, then patch, verify and document
  • Review the system's health at agreed intervals
08Engagement notes

Scope, deliverables and terms are agreed in writing before work begins.

We do not publish pricing, because effort depends on the data model, integration surface and quality requirements of the specific system. Estimates are produced after the scope is defined and are revised in writing when scope changes.
